About Me

Who Writes This Pointless Blog Anyhow?

James WelbesI do.

My name is James Welbes.  I am a 32 year old man, with absolutely no professional writing experience to speak of. (I did have a college professor tell me I should seek a career in writing, but I decided to choose home ownership instead)

I was born and raised in a modest town in Iowa called Cedar Rapids.  Upon graduating High School, I actually signed up for some classes at a local Community College.  I was going to learn all about computer networking.  Somehow, on the way to college I got lost and ended up in boot camp.

I served in the Navy from September of 2003 until I was Other-Than Honorably discharged (yes that’s a real discharge) on Valentine’s day, 2007. In 2011 (I think) I married the love of my life, Kari Welbes.

Professionally, I’ve been all over the map.  I’ve managed a Chick-Fil-A, been an electrician, electronics technician, Life Insurance Salesman. I even worked for Google for a month and a half as a Google Specialist selling Chromebooks.

Currently I work for GoDaddy.com as an Internet Sales and Service Consultant.  Clearly, I have no clue what I want to do when (if) I grow up.

Apart from my insatiable lust for rapidly changing careers, I do have other interests in life.  I’m heavily involved in my local church, currently trying to start a box making business (don’t ask) and I’ve traveled all over the world. If you care, so far I’ve graced the following countries with my presence: Australia, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, Dubai, El Salvador, India, and Jamaica.

Speaking of travel, in 2012 my wife and I spent 10 days serving at a children’s home in India. It was a wonderful experience. We are looking forward to going back and seeing all those kiddos again someday.  In the meantime, we’re preparing to become foster parents.  Not because we can’t have children of our own, we just want to do what we can to make our little town of Cedar Rapids a better place (especially for the children).

Haven’t done much since then that you would care to hear about.  I just like to live life.  I like to play soccer, guitar, video games, nerdy board games, I enjoy bow hunting, smoking cigars, frisbee golf.  I’ll try anything once.  Maybe twice just to make sure I don’t like it.
