HMDX Jam Speaker

Jam Bluetooth SpeakerBeing the lover of music that I am, (and also a lover of shiny blue things) I naturally had my eye on this little guy since the first time I saw it while working in Best Buy as a Google Specialist. And, (that’s right I can start sentences with the word ‘and’) being the skeptic that I am, I hesitated for about a month before I actually bought the thing. I often regret my purchases; I did not regret this purchase.

Let’s take a look at some of HMDXaudio’s claims regarding this little blueberry-like speaker:

4 hours of wireless play
Big sound, small footprint
Wireless up to 30 feet

Two of these claims are easily testable, the other is rather subjective, but I’ll do what I can. Remember, it is what it is.

Wireless up to 30 feet. Pretty bold claim, if you ask me. In my experience Bluetooth devices haven’t had the best of ranges (at least not the crappy ones from China that I buy). But to my surprise, 30 feet is quite a humble statement for this device. I was able to get clear, smooth sound from 36 feet away, going through a couple walls (I had to go outside before the sound changed). And in a wide open space, with no obstacles I was able to get an impressive 68 feet away from my source (Motorola Droid Bionic) before the sound quality changed! Color me impressed.

4 hours of wireless play. Ugh, this one is an annoying feature to test. I have to sit here for 4 hours waiting for this thing to die. Who has that kind of time? It’s been like, 2 hours so far, still going strong of course. I’ll have to find something to do for a couple hours. I’ll probably end up watching Til’ Death on Netflix or taking a nap until the silence wakes me up.

Big sound, small footprint. IMAO (in my arrogant opinion, I’m starting that BTW) this is an accurate description of this device. My only complaint, is that there could be a bit more bass. But really we’re talking about a speaker the size of a cupcake. If you try to turn the bass up too high, you might get a little “buzzing” sound, but as long as you don’t get greedy with the low frequencies, you’ll have a really nice, LOUD speaker that’s very portable.

If I was the kind of guy who gave star ratings, I think I would give this thing 4.5 stars. This is partially because of the bass issue, but mainly because I’m pretty stingy with 5 star ratings (some people hand those things out like candy, very annoying). I love this little guy. I’m almost obsessed with it, really. It has a way of making mundane chores (like dishes, or showering) fun! I can leave my phone in any room of the house and take the speaker with me to any other room in the house and not have to worry about the sound cutting out.

If you’re in the market for a portable Bluetooth speaker, get this thing. If you’re not, get it anyways. It’s that awesome.

Ok, so I did watch some Netflix. A good amount of it too. But I also did some dishes, and cooked a home-made pizza. They pretty much hit the nail on the head with this one. I started playing music, on almost full volume at around 1:15-1:30 (I know, a GOOD blogger would know EXACTLY when they started. Sue me) and the little guy cut out at 5:25. Nice.
